About Dhamma Padipa

"This is the law of nature, which applies to one and all; a defiled mind remains agitated, an unstained mind is happy."
- SN Goenka
About the centre
Dhamma Padipa, located in Jelcobine, Shire of Brookton, is approximately 120km south east of Perth and 40km west of Brookton.
The centre is on Strange Road, 76km from the junction of Brookton and Albany highways in Kelmscott, about 10km after the turn off to Beverly on the Brookton Highway.
Surrounding area
Set on 32 hectares of undulating rural land typical of the area, the centre is adjacent to the Strange Road Nature Reserve. A dense corridor of gum trees, acacias and casuarinas surrounds the land. The compound slopes gently up to the eastern boundary where there are picturesque views over a large granite outcrop and the valley below. With no close neighbours the centre is very quiet, providing an ideal facility for meditation.
Facilities
The meditation hall, kitchen/dining/accommodation building and ablutions block are built in rammed earth, providing excellent year-round insulation. Future plans include 20 single rooms with some already completed, and other accommodation is in dormitories or tents. Camping sites are available under robust camping shelters or in surrounding treed areas.
Centre management
The Vipassana Meditation Centre Western Australia is a non-profit charity and is managed by a board (known as the Trust), the members of which are experienced students appointed by the centre teacher for a term of up to two years. All who serve at the centre are volunteers who have experienced the benefits of practising Vipassana meditation and wish to help others to do so.
Non-centre courses
From time to time ten day non-centre courses are held at locations outside of centres as they are arranged by local students of Vipassana in those areas. An alphabetical list of worldwide course locations is available as well as a graphical interface of course locations worldwide and in India and Nepal.
Other languages
Information on Vipassana meditation courses is also available in the other languages. Click on the globe on the top right of the international Vipassana meditation page to select a language.
